Apply Now for Mardi Gras Indian Suit Preservation Internship

The Historic New Orleans Collection (THNOC) seeks an intern to study the preservation of Mardi Gras Indian (or Black Masking) Suits. Applications are due by March 4, 2022.
The internship is co-sponsored by Chief Howard Miller of the Creole Wild West and Mardi Gras Indian Council. Candidates can be students in high school, college, or graduate school; recent graduates; or young professionals interested in preservation in New Orleans. The ideal candidate has knowledge or firsthand experience of New Orleans Black Masking traditions. This position requires strong communication skills.
The internship project will include researching objects at THNOC, writing a preservation guide for the display and storage of Mardi Gras Indian suits, drafting an article for THNOC’s blog, and participating in a video about the internship experience.
The 15-week internship will begin on/about March 28, 2022, working 20 hours per week, compensated at $16/hr, plus parking expenses. This internship is funded by a grant from the Decorative Arts Trust.
