First Peoples Fund Receives $6 Million from MacKenzie Scott

News from the Field

First Peoples Fund’s 25 years of impact weaving together the economies and cultural fabric of tribal communities has been recognized with a $6 million investment from philanthropist MacKenzie Scott. Scott’s gifts to First Peoples Fund to support community-based artists acknowledges the unlimited potential of artists and culture bearers to heal and strengthen social fabric and collective identity. Traditional activities like dance, storytelling, weaving and other artforms are the rock upon which Native peoples build modern tribal communities and economies.

For First Peoples Fund, the timing of this generous gift could not be more fortuitous. They’re on the verge of launching the Collective Spirit Legacy Fund to support expansion of their work and preparing to host a multi-day festival of events at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in February 2022.
