Merrill Kaplan, Associate Professor of Folklore and Scandinavian Studies at The Ohio State University, was recently featured in a Slate Q&A on the topic of “goblin mode” in recent viral media articles. 

The label “goblin mode” compares the limited hygiene and movement many people fell into during the pandemic to the mythical creatures. In the Q&A, Kaplan discusses her academic expertise on goblins and analyzes the trend.
