This is a growing resource page about Portland, the conference venue, how to get there, and what to do when you arrive.
The Portland Local Committee has pooled their considerable knowledge of the city and the region to develop a Local Guide full of restaurant suggestions, info about the closest grocery stores and pharmacies, ideas for daytrips to the Oregon coast, and recommendations for local museums and other venues within walking distance of the hotel.

Stay in the AFS Block at the Hilton Portland Downtown
This November, the in-person portion of the 2023 AFS annual meeting will be hosted November 1-4 at the Hilton Portland Downtown, 921 SW Sixth Avenue, Portland, Oregon, 97204.
If you intend to stay at the conference hotel, please reserve a room in the AFS block by using the reservation link that we provide, rather than a third-party hotel reservation system.
This helps both you and AFS. If you have any trouble with your reservation, we will have more leverage to help you if you reserve within our block. Also, placing your reservation this way satisfies our contract with the hotel, helping us to avoid potentially costly fees if our block is not filled.
AFS guest rate: $189
The cutoff for reserving your room in the AFS block is Wednesday, October 11, 2023.
Look at a map of the Hilton Downtown Portland to get oriented.

The 2023 Local Committee has pooled their extensive local knowledge in their Local Guide to Portland, Oregon.
