Nebraska folklorist and storyteller Roger Welsch died on September 30th.

A native Nebraskan, he taught for many years at the University of Nebraska, worked and lived very closely with Native American communities in his region, wrote prolifically about Native and rural culture, folkways, and life in the state and in the Great Plains, and represented the people and communities he loved, and our field, for a number of years through regular appearances on CBS Sunday Morning. He was a very long-time member of AFS.

Read Welsch’s obituary on the Lincoln Journal Star and on the New York Times.
