University of Maryland, Baltimore County Seeks Contract Archivist

The Maryland Traditions Archives contains fieldwork and administrative materials created by Maryland state folklorists, collections donated by traditional artists and tradition bearers, and collections donated by regional folklife centers.
Responsibilities include processing new and existing archival collections preserved within the Maryland Traditions Archives at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), which are generated through the regular activity of the Maryland Traditions folklife program of the Maryland State Arts Council (MSAC) and its constituents.
Following department and professional standards, the Maryland Traditions Contract Archivist/General Associate: creates finding aids compliant with archival metadata standards; develops detailed inventories of materials; catalogs materials for archival and research use; drafts finding aids for the collections; re-houses materials in accordance with archival best practices; identifies materials in need of preservation; and integrates collections previously held at MSAC, MDSA, and regional folklife centers into unified collections at UMBC. Maintains and keeps updated master inventory of materials processed to date and inventory of materials to be processed. Early career archivists encouraged to apply.
$25/hour, Part-time. This is a temporary position. Initial contract is for one year with the possibility of renewal.
