Wiki Loves Folklore 2026 Media Contest Is Under Way
Wiki Loves FolkloreĀ is an international media contest where participants can contribute photographs, video, and audio about their local folk culture to Wikimedia Commons under free licenses to be used on Wikipedia and any other places with attribution. The campaign is targeted at protecting the worldās intangible cultural heritage.
The 2026 Contest continues to celebrate the rich tapestry of folk culture from around the world, featuring categories that include (but are not limited to)Ā folk festivals, dances, music, activities, games, cuisine, clothing, and a wide variety of traditional expressions. These may encompassĀ ballads, folktales, fairy tales, legends, seasonal celebrations, calendar customs, folk arts, folk religion, and mythology. The contest runs from February 1 through March 31, 2026. A separate Feminism and Folklore Writing Contest is being held at the same time.
