2024 AFS Annual Meeting Early Planning: What To Expect

Annual Meeting News

Save the dates and start imagining your trip to the 2024 AFS Annual Meeting this fall, November 6-9,  in Albuquerque, NM. The society’s 136th Annual Meeting will be held at the Albuquerque Convention Center and the DoubleTree by Hilton. In the coming months more insights and plans for the meeting will be shared as we work towards our next gathering.

Responding to insights gleaned from our 2023 participant survey results, AFS staff and the Albuquerque committee will be hard at work to build an annual meeting that brings the beloved energy of an AFS conference, while responding to your feedback for more interactive participation, broad engagement, and a cohesive thematic experience for both new and seasoned AFS conference attendees.

We will issue our Call for Proposals in the AFS News soon. Please stay tuned!  The proposal window is March 1-April 10.

Registration will open later this spring, and–in contrast to our previous process–you DO NOT have to register in order to submit a proposal.

We anticipate that these positive changes in the meeting may necessitate scheduling fewer total sessions, making individual and session proposals more competitive than in previous years.

With this in mind, please think creatively about how you would like to participate this year! Consider skipping the traditional research paper proposal and planning for a more interactive type of engagement as a discussant or moderator in a preorganized session or event. When you submit a proposal, you will also have the opportunity to volunteer to be a participant in a session that has yet to be curated by our 2024 Albuquerque Committee. (Our traditional options to submit an individual presentation proposal and/or a session proposal will also still be available.)
