The American Folklife Center (AFC) is inviting individuals and organizations to apply for its new Archie Green Cultural Documentation Program. The successor to AFC’s Archie Green Fellowship Awards and Community Collections Grant, this program is intended to support communities to document their cultural traditions, practices, and experiences from their own perspectives, while enhancing the Library of Congress’s holdings with materials featuring creativity and knowledge found at the local level. As such, successful proposals will come from applicants within or closely affiliated with the community whose cultural activities they propose to document.

Projects span up to twelve months, with applicants proposing a specific timeline as part of the application process. Proposed budgets should not exceed $50,000. The selected applicants will be provided with programmatic support and technical guidance from the AFC staff. Cultural documentation resulting from funded projects will be incorporated into the collections of the Library of Congress and made available on the Library’s website.

Concept papers are due on May 28, 2026 at noon ET.

Two online informational webinars are offered to provide information on the application process. Registration is required.
