CFP: 2025 National Humanities Conference

The 2025 National Humanities Conference will be held November 12–16 in Detroit, Michigan. This year’s theme is “Roots of Invention, Innovation, and Revitalization.” The Detroit region is characterized by a deep sense of rootedness and place that extends from the mound builders and Indigenous Algonquian-speaking people through growth fueled by early French colonization, fur trading, immigration, the Underground Railroad, and the Great Migration to the contemporary inner-community support networks that exist today. This sense of rootedness and connection to place inspires this year’s conference in Detroit.
The 2025 National Humanities Conference invites proposals for sessions that highlight connections across the humanities and other disciplines and practices. The Planning Committee especially welcomes proposals incorporating the theme of roots, exploring how rootedness—the sense of connection to our homelands, our ancestors, our cultures, and how that impacts how we interact with this world—reveals itself through the public humanities.
Submissions are due by April 10th at 11:59 p.m. PT. Please contact Edward Moreno at events@statehumanities.org with any questions or for support in submitting a proposal.
