Harvard University Seeks Lecturer in Folklore and Mythology

The Undergraduate Program in Folklore & Mythology seeks applications for a Lecturer in Folklore and Mythology. The appointment is expected to begin on July 1, 2024. The Lecturer will be teaching four undergraduate courses in the field during the 2024-25 academic year. We are especially interested in applicants who could offer courses in at least TWO of the following areas:
- Magic and Witchcraft
- Fairy Tales / Folktales
- Folklore on the Internet
- Folklore or Mythology and Contemporary Popular Culture
In addition to teaching courses on these topics (one per semester), the Lecturer would be encouraged to develop and offer courses (one per semester) on other areas of folkloristic relevance. The Lecturer may also be asked to advise concentrators writing senior theses where these are relevant to the Lecturer’s specializations and to evaluate senior theses.
The appointment is for one year, with the possibility of renewal, contingent on performance, enrollments, curricular need, and divisional dean approval.
Doctorate or terminal degree in Folklore and Mythology or related field required by the expected start date. Applicants who have received a doctorate within twelve months of the start date of the appointment, and those who expect to receive the degree in 2024, may be asked to submit appropriate verification that all requirements for the doctorate have been successfully completed.
Applications must be submitted no later than December 31, 2023. Letters of reference may be submitted up until January 14, 2024.
