Lei Ting Receives 2022 Saboohi I. Khan Award
Lei Ting (PhD candidate at the University of Tokyo) received the Saboohi I. Khan Award for Student Scholarship in Asian and Asian American Folklore. The award was presented at the Society’s October Annual Meeting for their work “Boundary-Crossing Art: Tourism and Peasant Painting in Rural Shanghai.” Ting’s detailed fieldwork and impressive analysis of folk art, tourism, and identity has been a valuable contribution to the study of Chinese folklore.
The award, presented by the Transnational Asia/Pacific Section, aims to mentor graduate and undergraduate students and to foster and encourage scholarly research and publication on Asian and/or Asian American folklore and folklife. The $500 prize winner is announced at the AFS annual meeting for the best student paper that contributes to Asian and/or Asian American folklore studies through research and analysis.
