Established in 1960, the Fellows of the American Folklore Society is an honorary body of folklorists, whose election to the Fellows signifies their outstanding contributions to the field. Members of the Fellows have produced a significant number of important articles, books, and other scholarly productions or exhibitions on folklore, and have provided meritorious service to the Society and the discipline of folklore studies. In addition to its honorary function, the Fellows sponsor activities to advance folklore studies, including mentoring programs for students, plenary sessions at the annual meeting, and special awards. The Fellows meet annually during the AFS annual meeting, usually inducting new members at that time.

Information for Fellows: How to Pay Dues

The easiest way to pay Fellows dues at any time of year (regardless of whether you need to renew your AFS membership at the time) is through the Fellows area in our online store. You can add your Fellows dues and any additional Fellow contributions to your cart from that page. You can also add sections dues if you so desire – those can be found in the Sections category of our store. Add as many items as you wish to your cart, and then proceed to checkout to pay for it all at once.

If you would like your Fellows dues and/or additional Fellows donations to be included in your annual membership dues invoice from AFS, we would be more than happy to facilitate that. To request an addition to your annual invoice, send a message to [email protected] indicate whether you will be paying regular or retired dues, and if you would like to add an annual donation, let us know what amount that should be.
