Register Now for OHA Keynote Address Prior to AFS Annual Meeting

Dr. Bettina L. Love will give the keynote address for the 2025 Annual Meeting of the Oral History Association (OHA) on Friday, October 17, 7:00–9:00 p.m. EDT. The title of the keynote is “Love, Joy, Creativity & the Brain: The Heart of Culturally Responsive Education.”

This event will take place at:
Georgia State University, Student Center East, 55 Gilmer St. SE, Atlanta, GA 30303
Community members who are not attending the OHA conference are welcome to join this event. Advance registration is required, and attendees will be asked to sign in upon arrival.

Dr. Love holds the William F. Russell Professorship at Teachers College, Columbia University, and is the author of Punished for Dreaming: How School Reform Harms Black Children and How We Heal, a New York Times bestseller. This work earned her the Stowe Prize for Literary Activism, a finalist for the LA Times Book Prize, and long-listed for the Brooklyn Public Library Book Prize. In 2022, the Kennedy Center honored her as one of their Next 50 Leaders for her dedication to fostering inspiration, inclusivity, and compassion, and in 2024, she was awarded the Truth Award for Excellence in Education from Better Brothers Los Angeles and The Diva Foundation. In 2024, she also received the Black Girl Magic Award at Lincoln Center in New York City.

AFS will also collaborate with OHA for more programming on Saturday, October 18.
