Save the Date: 2026 Folklore Studies Association of Canada (FSAC) Conference
The Folklore Studies Association of Canada (FSAC, also Association canadienne d’ethnologie et de folklore, ACEF) will hold their 2026 Conference at the Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador (Grenfell Campus) in Corner Brook, NL, Canada, May 30–June 2, 2026.
The theme for the conference is “Preserves.” The preservation of foodstuffs is an apt metaphor for the complex and contradictory project of folklore and ethnography. As a metaphor it is hoped this theme will allow the presentation of the very stuff that makes up the practice of folklore, ethnography and other companion disciplines including but not limited to:
- the collection and preservation of cultural materials;
- their transformation through transcription and analysis;
- and subsequent sharing and consumption as we share the fruits of our labor with each other and the world.
Participants are welcome to submit papers or panels that do not incorporate the theme. Individual papers will be grouped thematically into panels of 3 papers, or 1.5 hours total. Panel proposals of 1.5 or 2 hour blocks are encouraged. They may be individual paper or workshop based. Call for papers is now open, and the FSAC will accept submissions until January 31, 2026.
The FSAC is an educational, non-profit association for the purpose of increasing education and research in the field of folklore studies in all its aspects. Multidisciplinary, scientific, and educational, the FSAC is composed of over 200 members including folklorists, researchers, students, educators, retired adults, and people interested in folklore.
