The Children’s Folklore Section of the American Folklore Society is inviting submissions for its 2022 W. W. Newell Prize. The deadline is September 15, 2022.

The annual prize includes a $200 award for the best essay by students or emerging scholars on a topic in children’s folklore.

Authors must submit their own papers, and published papers are not eligible. The section conveners invite instructors to encourage undergraduate and graduate students with eligible papers to enter the competition, and welcome submissions by recent graduates or early career scholars. Papers must be typed and double-spaced; on the first page, include the author’s name, academic address, home address, e-mail address, and telephone number(s).

Award-winning papers will be offered the opportunity to be published in the Children’s Folklore Review.

Please electronically submit papers to David J. Puglia and Jared Rife.
