Submit Your New Book to the First Annual Vera Laska Book Award

The Vera Laska Book Award will be given annually by the New England History Teachers Association to the author who best furthers understanding of resistance movements and/or women around the world.  To qualify, each book entry must be published during the calendar year of January 1, 2022 through December 31, 2022. 

All submissions must be postmarked by December 1, 2022.

Vera Laska joined the resistance against the Nazis during World War II, eventually being caught and sent to Auschwitz II-Birkenau and other concentration camps for helping Jews cross national borders into safe territory.  Vera Laska escaped the concentration camp and eventually came to the United States to pursue her education and earned a PhD in American History from the University of Chicago in 1959. 

Founded in 1897, the New England History Teachers Association (NEHTA) is the oldest association of history teachers in the United States and has published its journal since 1943.
