Vilmos Voigt (1940–2025)

Hungarian folklorist Vilmos Voigt died at the age of eighty-five on June 8, 2025.
Professor Vilmos Voigt studied in the Faculty of Arts of Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) and graduated from there in 1963, having majored in Ethnography, Folkore and Hungarian Philology. He worked at the ELTE until his retirement, holding the Chair in Folklore, and was Director of the Institute of Ethnography.
Voigt received numerous awards in Hungary and abroad. He was honored as a Dr. Sc. of the Hungarian Academy of Science and was also a Fellow of the American Folklore Society.
