As the AFS Annual Meeting is only four months away, the AFS Executive Board and Annual Meeting team members got to spend some important in-person time in Atlanta, Georgia together. The Executive Board held their spring meeting in Atlanta to continue work and discussions for AFS’s long term plans, focusing on critical conversations impacting our field and community of supporters in these changing times.

Members of the Annual Meeting Local Organizing Committee joined the team working to prepare for the in person conference October 18-21, 2025 at the Crowne Plaza Atlanta Midtown. With two hotels and our conference meeting rooms under one roof, we are excited to have two lodging options. The Crowne Plaza Atlanta Midtown offers a traditional hotel experience and the Staybridge Suites Atlanta Midtown provides suites with a full kitchen and work space for those who want to share costs and living space during the conference. The suites and traditional hotel rooms share a street entrance, with check-in for both at the same reception desk, just inside the doors of the Crowne Plaza. Room Block links to both hotel blocks are listed on Local Information: Atlanta.

The Annual Meeting team was able to spend time considering key participant feedback from our prior conference experiences and do our best to address many of the concerns and attend to requests from our attendees. We are happy to report that the facility has found solutions to many of our requests, including a dedicated suite of gender neutral bathrooms, ample quiet/reflection space, and no bookings of other programs during our event days/times. We also envisioned how to make the best use of our limited technology budget to ensure we have adequate sound amplification in the meeting rooms, as well as two rooms dedicated to live-streaming from the in-person event which our virtual attendees will be able to join. These and other exciting format decisions are coming together for the preliminary schedule announcement in early June. We can’t wait to share more about our plans for the meeting!

Thank you to our local organizing committee, review committee, and board for all the input and participating in the planning for this upcoming meeting. Stay tuned for the preliminary program announcement in early June.
