Call for Nominations for the 2025 Election to the AFS Fellows
Nominations for new Fellows of the American Folklore Society (AFS) are now open for any Fellow or general member of the AFS. Moving forward, the cycle for nominations will continue to be later than in the past so that the elections will occur closer in time to the AFS annual meeting.
Please follow these procedures to submit your nomination:
(1) If you plan to make one or more nominations, e-mail Solimar Otero at solioter@iu.edu with the name of the person that you would like to nominate. She will check to see if this person has already been included on a nomination by the Nominating Committee or International Committee. All nominees for regular Fellows must be AFS members (Solimar Otero will also check this). Nominees for Fellows with Non-US primary affiliations do not need to be AFS members.
(2) Contact the person you would like to nominate to see if they agree to be nominated.
(3) All nominations must include an unsigned nomination letter of no more than one page. Nominations for regular Fellows need to include a 2-page c.v. and nominations for Fellows with non-US affiliation need to include either a 2-page c.v. or an equivalent document.
(4) All nominations need to include a second nominator who is an AFS member. The second nominator does not write a nomination letter. Include the name of the second nominator in the cover email with the nomination letter and c.v. or equivalent document. Please indicate if the nomination is for a regular Fellow or Fellow with a primary non-US affiliation. This email needs to be sent to solioter@iu.edu and cc’ed to the second nominator.
The nomination period for the 2025 election of new Fellows closes on May 6, 2025.
