The AFS Fellows are currently taking names for registration for the Breakfast with a Fellow event, which will take place at the 2025 Annual Meeting of the American Folklore Society in Atlanta on Monday, October 20th, 7:15–8:30am in the Peachtree room at Crowne Plaza Atlanta Midtown.

Breakfast with a Fellow allows for graduate students to sit down at a table and have meaningful discussions with established folklorists. This year’s fellows are an engaging group:

  • Nancy Groce (American Folklife Center, Library of Congress)
  • Diana Baird N’Diaye (Smithsonian Institution’s Center for Folklife & Cultural Heritage and The Will to Adorn)
  • C. Kurt Dewhurst (Michigan State University and the MSU Museum)
  • Joseph Sciorra (John D. Calandra Italian American Institute, Queens College, City University of New York)

Students will explore topics like narrative, music, material culture, community-based research, ethnic studies, occupational folklife, public sector scholarship and programming, and many other worthy topics with these distinguished hosts.

To register, please respond to Stephen Winick, swinick@comcast.net, by October 10th with the subject line “Breakfast with a Fellow,” and your top three choices of fellows to sit with in descending order.

In addition, graduate students are invited to the Fellows Reception for Graduate Students on Monday, October 20th, 7:30–8:15pm. Look for the location in the conference program! There will be a raffle giveaway with books, certificates, and other cool items at this event.
