You is Associate Professor of Comparative Literature and Intercultural Studies at the University of Georgia. Her research and teaching encompass folklore studies, Chinese literature and culture, critical heritage studies, gender and sexuality, Global Asias, health humanities, and digital humanities. Across these areas, a central concern of her scholarship has been how folklore studies can participate more fully in transnational, interdisciplinary, and decolonial conversations while remaining attentive to vernacular knowledge, cultural practices, community voices, and the histories and theories of folklore studies.

AFS President Jason Baird Jackson said, “I am so pleased that Ziying is joining the current JAF Editorial Collective. She adds unique strengths to our exceptional journal team, including her extensive editorial experience, scholarly record, and the unique leadership role that she now fills in global Asia folklore studies. JAF leaders, current, and recent, have worked hard to further internationalize our important journal and Ziying will certainly contribute to this core Society goal.”

AFS Annual Meeting attendees are invited to meet the editorial team at a brown bag session on Wednesday, October 28, at 12:15 pm.

Published continuously since 1888, the Journal of American Folklore is a cornerstone activity of the American Folklore Society and a crucial resource for folklore studies worldwide. JAF is currently edited collaboratively by an international Editorial Collective comprised of Norma E. Cantú, Coppélie Cocq, Tim Frandy, Lisa Gabbert, and Shelley Ingram, and now, Ziying You. Editorial work on JAF is supported by senior managing editor Lorraine Walsh Cashman, a team of review and section editors, and editorial assistant Lindsay Bourgeois. This team will lead the journal’s work through the end of 2030. JAF is published by AFS in partnership with the University of Illinois Press.
