Call for Nominations for the 2026 Election to the AFS Fellows
AFS members are welcome to make nominations for the 2026 class of the Fellows of the American Folklore Society, with a deadline of June 1.
The following are the criteria used for the nomination and election of Fellows with US primary affiliations:
- Membership in the American Folklore Society.
- The possession of a graduate degree in folklore or a related field.
- A significant body of work on folklore, which genuinely contributes to the discipline, and which conforms to professional standards.
- Active work in the advancement of the Society.
Fellows with non-US primary affiliations do not need to be members of AFS and are not expected to have been active in AFS.
Please follow these procedures to submit a nomination:
- Email Solimar Otero at solioter@iu.edu with the name of the person that you would like to nominate for the nominations of a Fellow with their primary institutional affiliation in the US. She will check to see if this person has already been included on a nomination by the Nominating Committee. All nominees for regular Fellows must be AFS members, so she will also check this.
- Nominees for Fellows with Non-US primary institutional affiliations do not need to be AFS members and should go to Robert Baron at rbtbaron@gmail.com.
- Contact the person you would like to nominate to see if they agree to be nominated.
- All nominations must include an unsigned nomination letter of no more than one page and a 2 page c.v.
- All nominations need to include a second nominator who is an AFS member. The second nominator does not write a nomination letter. Include the name of the second nominator in the nomination form with the nomination letter and c.v. or equivalent document.
All nominations must be submitted through the AFS Fellows Nomination Form.
