On Friday, November 3 at 7:00 pm, the AFS Creative Writing and Storytelling Section Convener, Ghassan Zeineddine, will be at Powell’s City of Books, in conversation with author Omar El Akkad, in celebration of Ghassan’s newly released collection of short stories, Dearborn. Powell’s is a Portland landmark, located at 1005 W Burnside St, Portland 97209. It is a half-mile from the Annual Meeting hotel, so a manageable walk for those who are up to it, or a short Uber/cab ride away.

Turn! Turn! Turn!
On Saturday, November 4 from 4:30-6:30pm, Emily Hilliard be doing a reading at Turn! Turn! Turn!, a community venue, restaurant, and bar located at 8 NE Killingsworth St–about a 12 minute car ride from the conference hotel (and a 12 minute walk to the great Mississippi Records). Emily will be in conversation with her friend, writer and fellow pie baker Kate Lebo (who was also a recent participant in the Center for Washington Cultural Traditions Apprenticeship Program), and one of her favorite musicians, Portland experimental guitarist Marisa Anderson, and Astoria old-time duo The Horsenecks will be playing sets.
Stop by, have a drink and some food, and enjoy some folkloric conversation and local music! You can be back to the conference hotel in time for the presidential address.
