Explore Asheville during the 2026 Annual Meeting
The 138th Annual Meeting of the American Folklore Society is around the corner and AFS looks forward to welcoming you in Asheville next week. In addition to all the wonderful programming at the 2026 annual meeting, AFS encourages you to make the most of your time in Asheville, experiencing the city and its cultural offerings.
Below are some of the great things that will happen in and around Asheville during the meeting:
- Hood Huggers International Tours – Explore Asheville’s Black history, culture, and community through these engaging local tours.
- Southern Highland Craft Guild – A wonderful opportunity to explore the rich craft traditions of the Southern Appalachian region.
- Moonlit Masquerade: An Evening of Fae and Folklore (Wednesday, Oct. 28) – Happening at Eulogy, a music venue operated by Asheville’s Burial Beer Co.
- Old-time Jam at Jack of the Wood (Wednesday, Oct. 28) – Phil Jamison, our collaborator and the caller for our Friday night Closing Party and Square Dance will play at this old-time jam during the third shift of musicians from 8:30–10:00 p.m.
- Old Farmers Ball Contra Dance (Thursday, Oct. 29) – A weekly contra dance at Warren Wilson College.
- Lemon-Aid Drag Fundraiser for Asheville Period Pantry (Saturday, Oct. 31) – At Ginger’s Revenge, a craft brewery and tasting room by the French Board River.
AFS also encourages attendees to download the Explore Asheville App—a great resource for discovering things to see, do, eat, and experience while in town.
