Graduate Students: Sign Up for the Breakfast with a Fellow at the 2026 Annual Meeting
The AFS Fellows are currently taking names for registration for the Breakfast with a Fellow event, which will take place at the Annual Meeting of the American Folklore Society in Asheville on Thursday, October 29, from 7:15 to 8:30 a.m. in Top of the Plaza.
Breakfast with a Fellow allows for graduate students to sit down at a table and have meaningful discussions with established folklorists. This yearâs fellows are a diverse and engaging group of scholarly and public folklorists who have worked in all areas of our field:
- Guha Shankar, American Folklife Center, Library of Congress
- Marilyn White, retired professor at Kean University and former president of the American Folklore Society
- Mary Hufford, program director of the Livelihoods Knowledge Exchange Network (LiKEN) and former president of the AFS Fellows
- Ian Brodie, professor at Cape Breton University and former president of the Folklore Studies Association of Canada
- Norma Elia CantĂș, professor at Trinity University in San Antonio and former president of the American Folklore Society
To register, please respond to Stephen Winick, swinick@comcast.net, by October 20 with the subject line âBreakfast with a Fellow,â and your top three choices of fellows to sit with in descending order.
In addition, graduate students are invited to the Fellows Reception for Graduate Students on Friday, October 30, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Grand Ballroom B. There will be a raffle giveaway with books, certificates, and other cool items at this event.
