Los Herederos Featured on ABC 7 Eyewitness News for Their Queens as Cultural Crossroads NYC Subway Installation

Los Herederos, a media arts non-profit dedicated to inheriting culture in the digital age, was featured on ABC 7 Eyewitness News on September, 23 for their Queens as Cultural Crossroads installation in the Roosevelt Avenue and 74th Street subway station in Jackson Heights. ABC 7 interviewed folklorist and Los Herederos Executive Director, Naomi Sturm-Wijesinghe about the installation, the newly-launched LH Radio station, and their Sonicycle.
The subway station exhibition was also covered by Gothamist and La Voce di New York.
A public folklorist and ethnomusicologist by training, Naomi Sturm-Wijesinghe has more than 15 years of experience working at every level of small to mid-sized non-profit arts organizations. Her specialties range from immigrant and urban place-based folklife, to grassroots fundraising and non-profit management. Naomi is the founding Executive Director of Los Herederos, a media arts non-profit dedicated to inheriting culture in the digital age. She is also the Creative Traditions Program Director for City Lore and an adjunct professor at the New School. Her practice centers around interdisciplinary ethnography and working collaboratively in communities to encourage meaningful social transformation via the folk and traditional arts.Â
Naomi is co-chair of the AFS Cultural Diversity Committee, a member of the AFS Nominating Committee, and co-convenor of the AFS Public Programs Section.
