Registration remains open for the virtual Decolonization 101 Workshop, which takes place from 8:00 am – 12:30 pm on October 11. Participants must join by 8:10 am PDT in order to attend the workshop.

Developed for the museum and cultural institution audience, Live Oak Consulting’s Decolonization 101 Training will offer vital information to create a basis for cross-cultural understanding. Topics include a historical overview of museums and Native people; local Native culture and history (and why it matters); colonial history: law and policy; sovereignty and tribal partnerships; unpacking decolonization; navigating the land acknowledgement; museums and Native people today; and acknowledging settler privilege. Offered virtually in lecture style, with small and large group work and reflection, this thoughtful gathering is facilitated by Live Oak Principal Deana Dartt PhD (Chumash and Mestiza), and co-facilitated by Heron Brae.
