AFS Announces Sites and Dates for 2026 and 2027 Annual Meetings

AFS is pleased to announce that its 138th annual meeting will be held at the Renaissance Asheville Downtown Hotel in Asheville, North Carolina from October 27–31, 2026. Mark your calendars to gather in the mountains of western North Carolina!

The 2026 Annual Meeting in Asheville will serve as the centerpiece of the AFS’s America 250 programming. Asheville and the broader region—an area that faced catastrophic loss during Tropical Storm Helene and has since emerged as a hub of arts-driven recovery—offers a powerful setting to explore how the boundaries of western North Carolina, the Appalachian region, and the nation are continually redrawn and redefined. 

The 2026 Planning Committee will announce the meeting’s theme in the new year.

In 2027, AFS will hold a joint annual meeting with the Oral History Association at the Palmer House in Chicago, Illinois from November 3–6. Stay tuned for more information as our planning continues.
