The Archie Green Student Travel Awards, awarded by the Public Programs Section, is named for folklorist and activist Archie Green of San Francisco, for students to defray costs for traveling to the AFS annual meeting. This year’s recipient is Sylas Alvarez, graduate student at Western Kentucky University. The Section is interested in supporting graduate and undergraduate students who have an interest in working as public folklorists, or who have chosen an area of public folklore as a primary topic of research.

Alvarez received the award for engaging in public folklore work and events, and especially for developing an enthusiasm to create space within museums and arts councils for Queer people to engage in and find support.
