An Accessible Hybrid Meeting

In 2024, we gathered in Albuquerque, NM over November 6-9, with some hybrid concurrent sessions, livestreamed events, and recordings after the fact.

One week later, on November 18-19, we gathered virtually for panel sessions, a special virtual poster session, networking opportunities, and special programs.

The in-person and hybrid programs of the society’s 136th Annual Meeting were held at the Albuquerque Convention Center and the DoubleTree by Hilton.

Crossing the Global Storm: Networks, Solidarities, and Communities in Struggle

The theme of the conference is Crossing the Global Storm: Networks, Solidarities, and Communities in Struggle. The global storm reminds us about the intimate connections among people who struggle across the globe and hemisphere. Crossing the Global Storm aims to bring together folklorists, culture bearers, culture workers, communities, and organizations in the fight to build networks of autonomy, commitment, and collaboration. The ongoing destruction of the planet and the dehumanization of people urges us to center folklore practice in building bridges and networks.

Virtual attendees can expect access to some Albuquerque-based programming in the form of streamed keynotes, a limited number of hybrid sessions, and program recordings later, in addition to a fully virtual poster session space. Place-based attendees can engage these virtual resources before and after gathering in Albuquerque for an immersive, in-person conference experience.

We have posted the link to book your hotel room at the DoubleTree by Hilton in the AFS block over the summer in the AFS News.
