Prizes and Grants -
AFS Gerald L. Davis Fund Grants
The American Folklore Society provides a limited number of grants, ranging from $500 to $2000, to foster the participation, inclusion, and affirmation of persons of color who are invested in community development.

AFS Stipends for International Participants
AFS offers a limited number of travel stipends on a competitive basis for folklorists and other cultural specialists from outside the United States and Canada.

AFS Student Travel Stipends
AFS provides stipends of $300 each to selected students whose presentations are accepted for the annual meeting program.

Independent and Public Folklore Travel Stipend
The AFS Public Programs Section and the Independent Folklorists’ Section offer an AFS Annual Meeting travel stipend of $750.00.

Women’s and Independent Folklorists’ Sections’ Annual Meeting Award
The AFS Independent Folklorists’ Section and the Women’s Section offer an Annual Meeting Award of $1,000 to attend the AFS Annual Meetin

Polly Stewart Student Travel Stipend
Each year, the Women's Section awards a travel stipend to one or more students to attend the American Folklore Society meeting.

Archie Green Student Travel Award
The Public Programs Section will provide up to three awards of up to $500 each, named for folklorist and activist Archie Green of San Francisco, for students to defray costs for traveling to the AFS annual meeting.

Elaine J. Lawless Travel Award
The Folk Belief and Religious Folklife Section awards a travel stipend in honor of distinguished folklorist, religious folklife scholar, and professor, Elaine J. Lawless, of up to $500 to be awarded to a graduate student to participate in the Society’s annual meeting.
